1) using pure olive oil...is Xtra virgin ok?

2) Milburn instructions say to use a 2lb cut for spit or seal coats before filling with pumice. I've seen other people using a thinner cut. What cut do you use to seal?

3) I only have weekends to work on it. Does it matter if it sits 5 or 7 days between seal coats, or for that matter, between body sessions?

Thanks, Wendy

Pure virgin olive oil is just fine to use. I spit with 2lb. cut and also my sessions. You can resume polishing at any time after you stop. Just spirit off first. I use a 1lb. cut for final glazing.

Thanks Mark. So instead of spiriting off a few hours after a bodying session, I should wait until the next time I am ready to polish and spirit off first? Or should I spirit off an hour or 2 after bodying and then let the guitar sit for a week and then go right to bodying? Thanks, Wendy

I would do both. After a sit for a couple of days, the spiriting off serves to clean the surface and soften the hardened shellac. This allows for somewhat better amalgamation of the surface when you begin to body again.

Wendy, I always spirit off about 1 hr. after my last session. Then if the guitar sits for a week or more, i do it again just before i resume.

Isn't that what I just said? I usually don't wait for an hour. More like 15 to 20 minutes after a session. I find I get better leveling if I don't wait so long.

I am getting into f.p., and I don't get the spiriting off thing.
Isn't the oil still there?
The oil isn't evaporating, the alcohol is, right?
I've been wiping the oil off before the session, with a microfiber cloth.
I also have no idea what I'm doing.
