I would like to make up a temperature control unit like the one LMI sells. I feel confident in my ability to wire up such a unit correctly. I realize I need the controller, a relay, and a sensor of some sort. I see lots of controllers on ebay, as well as relays, I just don't know where to get the thinest sensor for sticking under the heating blanket. Has anyone made one of these units and or do you have any insights on where to get parts.

I don't know the first thing about building something like this, but I am pretty sure the 'temperature sensor' you are referring to is called a k-type thermocouple. This might help you find what you need.

I don't have the LMI unit, but I am using an automotive multi-meter from Harbor Freight that I saw Todd Stock using in one of his youtube bending tutorials. It included a k-type thermocouple that is quite thin and fits easily between the wood/blanket sandwich. It's a lot easier to deal with than the kitchen temp probe I had been using.

Do a search there are a few threads on controllers and I remember one where someone modified a typical K type by twisting the wires together (I think). Search for PID controller and you should come across it.
