I'm interested in tyying a rubbed oil finish on the neck, and for those who go that route, do yuo finish the headstock with the same finsh? If so, do you get a high gloss finish on the headstock? If you use another fnish to get a gloss on the headstock, how do you transition between the finishes on the neck? Thanks.

I've done rubbed Danish oil on a few necks but have made the headstock lacquer high gloss. I built up the lacquer on the headstock first as it takes longer to cure out versus the danish oil. Mask off any part you don't want lacquer on, do your spraying and let it cure a day or two before removing the tape, then you can do the danish oil (or what ever you decide) on the rest of the neck. Buff out the headstock when buffing out the body.

I got a question:

Is it possible to brush on lacquer?

I am thinking French Polish on the body, oil for the neck (because oil feels much better for the player), and maybe gloss lacquer or 2K poly for the headstock.

However I am not going to get any spray equipments because the shop is small and while I can spray in the community hallways while I was doing it as a hobby, this wouldn't work as a job. I'd have to get professional spray booths and stuff and it's not practical if it's just for headstock (considering that it would be one or two guitars at a time and cleaning a gun is too much work for a small run like this)

I am investigating the possibility of brushing on lacquer or 2K clear only for the headstock, and then rub it out and polish it to a shine.

Brushed lacquer works fine, though it is slow, since the coats need to be thin. A retarder keeps it from drying too fast.
