The other day I came across an ad on Craigslist for a Laguna 6" jointer. I had been thinking about picking up a 6" jointer, so I checked it out. It turns out it was being sold by Laguna, and it was their their prototype for their current 6" jointer with a helical cutterhead (this: http://www.lagunatools.com/jointers/jointer-platinum6_3 ). This thing cuts like a dream. I ran some birdseye with crazy grain and it had no tearout whatsoever.

Even though it was only $350, it could turn out to be a really expensive jointer, because now I'm going to have to get a planer with a helical cutterhead . . .

Some of the most expensive words in the English language are "I got a good deal..."!

Followed by "Free" and "While you're at it...".

Good find!

I am currently wrestling with "while you're at it."

Great find. Is this exactly like the production model? will you be able to get parts that fit correctly?

Bryan, it is not quite like the production model, but the parts from the current model will fit it for the most part. It was a good score.

I would say that if new cutters and any parts that are likely to wear out will be available, then i am jealous!
