I just finished cutting out a headstock logo from the 'laminated abalam' from SM.
I got some chipping out from the top layer. What are my options for filling after the inlay is installed. Can I create some AB dust & crazy glue it in. Or maybe just fill with clear epoxy?
thanks
MM

Make a new one. When working with pearl or ablam, it's a good idea to cut it glued to a backing board, make sure your saw cuts on the down stroke so you don't have chip out.

I do a lot of inlay and never glue to a black board but I use 0000 size saw blades. There are many techniques that you can use . Post pictures of the chip outs and we can see what you are dealing with . There are different thickness pearl sheets .

this will show how I inlay and fill I will have a cutting vid out soon. It is not uncommon to sand the edges to clean things up.

there's no way I could post a pic of this, it's just too small. And I am just talking about the logo itself, I'm not at the stage of routing out the head plate yet. I think I've watched all your videos John
I achieved the exact shape I wanted & the edges are square.
But the abalam which is .050, looks to be made up of many thin layers of the stuff epoxied together. And at a pointy end there is a little chip off deep enough that it will not sand out.
It will be inlaid on a black piece but black filler will not do the trick.
So...

Mike, I can second Rods' tip about gluing it to a backer. I glue mine to a piece of verneer (you could even sandwich it you wanted to) with titebond or HHG, after cutting it out throw the piece in some boiling water and the pieces will seperate. I started doing this because I was breaking pieces all the time, this solved my problem. It makes it a lot more robust.

That's the one issue with ablam, it can chip easily. You could cut a tiny piece to fit the chip out, or modify your logo to suit the chip out, or cut a new one, I bet you could have cut a new one out in the amount of time it took to post, read the responses and re-post ;)
