Hi everyone ... just thought I'd post a shot of this one since it's number 200!

When you're building your 200th instrument, it's inevitable that you start thinking back over your career ... building my first nylon string guitar in my dad's garage in 1972 (in the winter, with the snow from the hood of his car melting down the back of my pants!) ... sweeping the floors in the early 1974 Larrivee shop when a gent comes in and asks if Jean would build an archtop jazz guitar, to which he replied "no, but he will" (it took me a minute to realize he was talking about me!) ... starting my own shop in 1977 and having my buddy Grit organize a bunch of friends to buy my first spray equipment! When it gets right down to it, it's not the guitars as much as the great people that stick in my mind. It has been ... and continues to be ... a great ride!

Keep your stick on the ice!

David Wren

PS ... for those with time on their hands, there are more shots and specs in the What's New section of my site

Thanks so much for the encouraging words everyone ... it is VERY much appreciated!!!

By the way ... that incredible Lutz top is from our friend Shane over at High Mountain Tonewood, and that 3D set of flamed koa is from the great folks at Volcano Guitar Works ... a big thanks for the great wood and great service! It really does make a difference when you're dealing with such nice people during your work day, doesn't it?

Now ... off to the shop!

And a fine shop it is. I had the pleasure of a visit and tour a couple weeks back and it is a cool well organized place to build.
I need to emerge from my basement and into the light.

Congratulations to you, David. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reflections. I hope you take the time to savor the occasion. Really lovely guitar, too.

Congrats David,
I'll never make it to #200 either as it's taken me 45 years to get to half as many.
Hopefully for all of us though it will be

Congratulations David on your 200th. I've just started my 60th instrument, if I take out lutes, ukes and the odd violin this is my 50th guitar, if I build at my current rate I'll catch you up when I get to 105!

Colin

Congratulations David,

Springing for some great wood and beautiful artwork is a well deserving way to celebrate #200. It's really nice to see one of the people who help put Canadian instrument makes on the map posting here.

A couple more photos of that beauty would be nice.

Cheers,
Danny

I'd like to add my congratulations. Your work, and the work of many other veteran luthiers is a real inspiration to me and I'm sure other young builders as well.

It will be a while before I get to 200, but I'm getting close to the 100 mark.

I enjoyed getting to chat a bit in Montreal and hope to you see again next year.

Josh
