Last post on the OLF Small Jumbo I quoted the spread of the X brace to be 87 degrees. Thought this was odd so I went to the Stew Mac pictures on line and the spread there is more then 90 degrees. Quite obvious that there are more then one type of plan and major changes have been made somewhere along the way. Have sent e-mail to Stew Mac to see if they have a handle on this. It would be nice to know what other folks have as far as the angle of the X brace is concerned. Hard way for new folks to get started.

Hi Tom,

I ran into this problem a couple years back. The angle should be 90 degrees as I recall - I can double check this tonight if you like. Don't measure things off a copy of a plan ever! I spent the time and effort to input the OLF-SJ (and others) into Corel Draw as full-size vector drawings so I could make accurate laser-cut templates.

Cheers,
Dave F.

Dave: Would sure appreciate that. I'm not scaleing off the plan, an old machinist from yesteryear here. The 87 degrees is stated on the plan. Thanks for your help.

I Have the OLF MJ plans, and the X brace is 87 deg. as well.

Are any of these plans available as .dwg or .dxf?

.dxf .dwg? No, not unless you create them...

The plans say 87 degrees, but if you try to make it with this angle, the ends of the cross bracing will not be in the right place. Let me confirm exactly what the findings were (I had an email exchange with Michael about this) and get back to y'all tonight.

Are there builders out there that want .drw or .dxf guitar plans? If so what style?

Got e-mail back from Stew Mac re: the 87 degree angle. They say the plans all have this angle and the angle of the website pictures has changed due to resizing to fit the site. This makes sense to me and after reviewing the pictures it appears the guitar is almost as wide as it is long.Pending a reply from Dave Fifield or someone else with plans that show something different I will have to put the crow cooking pot on the stove and try to wash this egg off my face.Sorry if I caused any stir about this re: the plans.Thought there was a problem where it didn't exist.Note to self..............check further before engaging typing finger.
