got home today from the emergency room where I had to take my wife and saw my workshop in this condition. I had stored some wood on a top shelf for about a year and suddenly it decided to fall down while I had my latest guitar on the bench for some fine tuning of the set up. My new used truck also blew a head gasket on the way home from work a day ago. Somebody up there doesn't like me.

Boo Hoo Hoo. :o eek

I guess this gives me another chance to hone my repair skills.

We've all been there (or someplace like it).
Consider it another occasion to practice your skills.

I hate it when that happens.

Hope that your wife is OK.
The truck can be fixed.
And its just a guitar.

But still, it sucks.

Fix that guitar up and write a blues song!
Sorry to hear of all your troubles Nick.
Hope your wife is okay and you can get the other things back on track asap.

Cheers,
Dave F.

Thanks for posting this. I have some shelves that I've been meaning to beef up for awhile now. A good reminder not to wait.

Good luck.

If you can fix that and it passes for new...please post pics in the "How To Be A Luthier" thread.

Nick, I am sorry that happened!! Don't let the discouragement get you down, the nice thing about building guitars is that you can always just build another. This will be a good story some day but I am sure right now it completely sucks. I hope your wife is doing better too.

It does happen to all of us. I had a heat lamp hanging over a guitar that was helping to cure a finish, and out of the blue it just fell down and crashed into the top. Stuff happens. Look at it as a learning experience, albeit an exasperating one. I feel for ya...

Wood shop mistakes, count to 10 on your fingers, if you make it to 10, it is only a little mistake.

Thanks y'all. It's just life. As usual bad luck happens in threes. Can't blame any one but myself. I'm still in a developing stage with tops anyway so maybe it'll give me a chance to try one of either cedar or Engelman spruce, which I hear is better for fingerpicking anyway. I think that was also the first time I ever left a guitar on the bench that long. I just started a new day job and have been very busy.

By the way I took my truck to a local shop, and the wife is fine after getting treated for keto acidosis, a complication from diabetes. Thank god we have insurance.

I like your "crime scene" photos...all they are missing is a chalk outline around the guitar  .

Bummer about the guitar and have been through vehicle hell as well... Sometimes things just happen but it is not what hand we are dealt but rather how we play the hand. At least trucks and guitars are rebuildable.

I had a similar shelf collapse once and since have my wood on shelf brackets that are welded and can hold more weight than I could put on it...just so I never have to deal with an oops moment.
