On my last build , 6 string, I shifted the 2nd thru 5th strings 1/32 off center towards the high e and it feels great , nut is 1 13/16 with 1/8 on each end. I am finishing a 12 string that I started last year and ended up with a 1 3/4 nut, meant to be 1 13/16. I drew out the nut on cad shifting the strings as before and ended up with 3/32 fretboard on each end.
Is that too close? Any thoughts on 12 string spacing? Saddle is 2 5/16.

I have three twelves, all with 1-7/8 nut width. I like the outside strings at about 0.110 from the fretboard (I've seen them as close as 0.100 and as far as 0.125 - all depends on whether you thumb fret or bend a lot). I use the SM gauge to space the primaries and put the octaves 0.100 from their centers - again, it will depend on the string gauges you are using and your playing style.
