I have some large cracks in the back of a guitar I'm repairing. I have repaired cracks before, but these are raised and spreading apart. The cracks are about 1/8" proud of the surface. How do I go about getting that flat again?

I flattened an old birch guitar top using an iron and ironing it flat under aluminum foil with a spritz of water. Clamp it between two flat boards overnight as it cools.

Just an idea.

You need to remove the braces and rehydrate and clamp the back between boards, I don't think heat will do any good, but that's just my opinion.
When the wood is back to it's shape, then glue the joint, an re-brace.
Treat it just like a new back that you are going to join and brace. If the wood won't return to it's original shape, and it may not, you'll have to fit some splints to the gaps, before bracing.
