Here's one I just finished the woodworking on for Healdsburg. I spent a couple of weeks in Hawaii in February and saw so many beautiful things made from Koa from guitars to ukes to furniture I thought I'd try my hand at it. This one is modeled after the Koa guitars Martin built in the 20's and 30's, although they never built a 42 style. I decided to use Cocobolo in place of ivoroid for bindings, heelcap, etc. and I really like the look.

I used a modified bridle joint on the peghead and the more I do of these, these better I like them.If your into vintage stuff like I am, I'd encourage you to try this joint. It really gives you a different perspective of why the Martin "Volute" or "Dart" looks the way it does. It's a beautiful joint and extemely strong. It's challenging to learn, but worth the effort. I have a set of cocobolo tuner buttons beautifully made by Burton LeGeyt that I may use on the Waverly tuners, or I may use a set of ebony knobs. I can't decide which will look better. Decisions, decisions..............

Gotta love that koa. Beautiful guitar. I for one would really appreciate a toot on the headstock joint.

As usual, beautiful work Jimmy.
And I'm with you on the Coco bindings w/ Koa--perfect complement.

Steve

Looks Killer Jimmy. I love the Koa but thought more so you really nailed the bracing (from another thread) and aesthetic details. Great job.
