I'm completely amazed at how many new faces we're seeing around the OLF lately. This thread is an invitation to all you newbies, whether you're building your first or your hundredth, if you've never posted any of your work in progress or a shot of your completed instruments or a cool shop or jig photo. You can't say you haven't been invited. This thread is for you, new builders, old builders, and lurkers.... Show us your stuff!

pizza How about a slice of pizza while we wait! Cool new icons guys! Hey hey.

What up boys and girls!!!! This is my very first post here on this OLF thing and I am excited to join you all.

I just retired early from my 20 year job at the Ford plant where I was the lead, head lug nut putter-on-er stupidvisor and I want to learn to build gitars and start selling them and making big bucks. But I am going to go at her slowly and take at least a few months to learn all I can from you folks first……..

My first project is a gitar modeled after one of them there ovations like my hero Keith Partridge plays…… It’s all coming together nicely once I figured out that I could use my toilet bowl as a mold for the fibergas back. It was real hard to get the kids to stop using the toilet while I did the layup but most of the time they were good about it. Heck I saved milk cartons for them to use which worked out real fine until little Billy Dean saw his own picture on one of them cartons………

But the policeman got real nice when I offered to sell him my sister Ellie……

Thanks for the invite and now with my baseball cap on backwards I am going to be doin some serious studying and learn all I can from ya all and your fantastic library.

See ya.

Well shoot-fire guys - thanks for the very warm welcome!!!

I thought that I would try posting my very first picture ever here on this there OLF and it's of my family.

They always said that we have a great last name for wood workers and our name is Clampdownonit. At the top of the picture is Billy Dean Clampdownonit, then comes Granny, and me - Leroy, and finally Ellie May Clampdownonit........

Thanks again folks!

I like a good laugh too... but come on - Mitch has a point. Who is going to want to post progress of their first build right after a that? It could have been a neat thread....

Well, heck - I'll bite...

I've been building solidbodies for about 6 years, and have yet to dip my toe into acoustic building, though it will happen soon - I have most of the materials all ready and waiting.

Here's my last finished project, a semi hollow electric with acoustic style detailing (backstrip, butt wedge etc). Those of you who regularly post on the MIMF or PG will probably recognise me or the guitar, I'm a regular on both sites, but have tended to lurk here.

I read this forum a lot but rarely post. I guess that makes me a lurker... duh
In any case, I'm not working on any acoustic instruments right now, and that seems to be the focus here, but here goes anyway.
I've got quite a few solidbodies almost ready for finishing, actually. Here is a Tele with a redwood root burl top (that ain't no veneer either, thats 1/4" top piece, fully carved too!) and a LP style with a spalty sycamore top and inlaid FB.

The second photo is a pair of 6 string basses getting close to finishing time. One has a curly walnut top, the other is bubinga.

Great to have you both here.

I'd rather see each new luthier's work in separate threads - easier to follow their progress IMO. I'll post here if forced to though.... idunno

Welcome Setch and Brady,

Setch that is one nice six string electric. The neck to body join is nice. Hey, is that a Martin Style diamond inlay on that electric? I got tickled when I saw that. Great job.

Brady, I've built some bass necks and they are totally fun. Can't wait to build an entire instrument. Woah! Here is a link to a StingRay Bass 20th Ann. Edition Demo on Youtube.com by Ed you might enjoy:

I'm better at building guitars than posting photos I guess. Any help on adjusting photos so I can post them would be appreciated. I tried posting a photo but it says the file is too big.

John

If you are using Windows, you can download a free program from MIcrosoft Power Toys, called Image Resizer. It runs in the background, and all you have to do is right click on a photo, or group of photos, and a resize selection will be included in the "right click menu". Any of the sizes work fine here. I use the large, it reduces the files to about 80 - 130K, and still leaves a picture big enough when expanded to show detail. Here is a link to the page. Microsoft Power Toys
Image Resizer is 5th from the bottom, in the right hand column. Very small footprint on your computer. If you are using a Mac, someone else can help.

I registered with OLF a couple of weeks ago, remember (New Guy from Tennessee). GO VOLS! I'm the one whose accent could be heard from the written word. laughing6-hehe I promised that I would post some pictures of my work, and I finally made some decent pictures just today. As you probably know, it's difficult to get the true colors in a photo, but these are pretty close.

Thanks for lookin'

Mark L.

Hey Waddy, I never succeded in making image resizer work for me on my PC. It downloads OK, install OK, I have the "resize image" option added in my right click, I can choose the size and click OK... then, nothing happens... any idea what could be wrong???
TIA
Marc

Did you check your folder where the picture is to see if it added a new copy of the picture. It would have the same name as your old one with (Large) (Medium) or (Small) in the name. For instance. If your pic was P000396.jpg, it would make a smaller copy named P000396 (Large).jpg, if you chose Large. If you used the "advanced" button and clicked the box to not make a copy, it would just change the original, I think. I have never done that. Wen you do one picture, you really don't notice that it did anything. It just makes that copy, and deposits it in you folder, without comment. Check your folder.

I had one more guitar that I wanted to post pictures of, (it would only let me post 8 pics at a time) This one is built out of 600 year old white oak from the historical Pemberton oak. (google pemberton oak if interested) I was lucky enough to be able to get some of this because a good friend of mine is a direct decendent of Col. John Pemberton. Picked through a big stack of it and found one board that was on the quarter. Anyway, here it is.

Thanks
Mark L.

Man, I'm seeing some nice work in this thread. Welcome to all you lurkers and newbies. I'm on my first build too, bu I've posted so many pictures of it, I won't post any here. I think I've already reached capacity, for this week, anyway.

Wow Mark those are very nice guitars.

Red Oak, I have 22 logs cut up and haven't built one guitar with it yet. Yours is gorgeous.

I also like your white oak. There is a double Y white oak just a little ways down the hill from my shop door. If it could look this good........ wow7-eyes

OK I may as well jump in now too. I just signed in a couple of weeks ago after kurking for some time. Whilr this is the 2nd guitar I built, this will be my 3rd try at putting in pix, which all seem to be too big. If it works I'll add more later. Tim

Ok, I guess it's not much, but here goes. I just got started a couple of weeks ago on my first build. It a curly maple build. The neck is a five piece laminate with walnut and paduk in the center. The top is lutz spruce.
