I was cruzing the web and ran across a mention of guitar bracing laminated with rosewood and/or ebony and spruce on early 1900 Maurer guitars. I've used this kind of stuff on ukes, but never on guitars. Anyone seen a Mauer and can describe that style of bracing? Thanks, Bob

Thanks for the replies. I was mostly curious about the laminated "wood" Maurer bracing, and how it held up. Not too interested in carbon fiber.

Peg,
The Larsons are the ones who laminated either rosewood or ebony between spruce on their main X braces. They also were fairly well arched.
Any of the Larson guitars bring very top dollar on the vintage market, and are known as great playing and sounding guitars.
I would say that generally they have held up very well over the years.

As for how well laminated bracing will hold up on YOUR guitar, well, material selection and method are everything.

McPherson uses rosewood laminated braces. They also use a 20 foot radius on the top which is laminated from 2, or 3 tops (not nomex core just laminated).
