Cut out the sides, and made the neck and tail blocks. Has anyone any recommendations for the thicknesses of sides, back and top?
I've made the tapered block on top of the neck block, does this remain flat or get rounded when the kerfing is bowl sanded?
On the Mayes DVD's he seems to keep it flat and makes the top brace nearest the block flat, but I can't figure out how you would bowl sand only part of the rim.
All help much appreciated.

It's a sitka spruce top and African mahogany back and sides.

Thanks for the help.

I don't bowl sand only part of the rim. The transverse is glued on flat (as are my soundhole reinforcement braces), and then after the top is bowl sanded completely making sure to give a even surface where the end of the neck block extension/transverse is I manually flatten the top of the neck block extension. No need to sand the linings in the upper area flat as it all conforms, and the very slight distortion is either not noticeable, or sanded out afterwords. I go back after it is boxed up prior to binding and re-flatten the top where the fingerboard extension is, and do it again after binding. I'm pretty sure this is covered in the videos, but there is some overlap in my neck setting video covering this angle as well fallaway ect.

It's kind of hard to explain in words, but easy to show in person.

Thanks for the input John. I've really enjoyed your DVD's. It's perfectly possible that I've missed something in one of them, they contain so much great information.
Charles.
