Planning to use robbie o/brien/s M&T plans to build my 1 st OM guitar. I don/t want to make the templates myself . Checked stew mac and found a set for 76$ . Have any of you used the LMI or stew-mac templates ? and if so, what is your experience ?/ which one would you recommend for purchasing. I already have most of the hardware for the robbie o/brien plan ?? Thanks.

I've used and watch others use Robbie's M/T jig. When I made mine I made my own templates. I got the job done, but it was a lotta fiddling around to get it just right.

Robbie says that LMII will soon be offering a kit with all the hardware including both a set of M/T and dovetail templates. If you can hold out until LMII gets this ready, it's what I would suggest.

How many OM's do you plan to make? Do you really need to spend the money for a template? Or if you plan to make your own template, do you really need to spend the time transferring dimensions from the plans to the template material and cutting it out. Then using the template to mark the wood.
Why not copy the layout from the plans right to the guitar wood itself. Save some time and money. And if you're off 1/32nd or 1/16th, big deal. You'll never be able to hear that in the finished guitar.

I plan to use the mortise and tenon templates for 3 styles of gtr, steel string ,parlour,OM an dread. I looked at waldron , and found it extremely confusing to navigate through . I am a computer bozo though soooo .I looked at stew- mac. No responses so far about stew- mac. I like robbies design. I checked LMI . ,Will they be just selling the acrylic templates?? I already have the hardware, and baltic birch. I am redoing an old LMI alum . classical gtr template . Thanks for ideas , they are much appreciated, ernie

You can print an OM plan out full size on a laser printer. Either go to a reprographics place, or assemble it. You can then use heat or transfer liquid to directly transfer the printed pattern to whatever you want. Plastic, metal, or wood. Not sure how that helps you, but it might. Another method that is really accurate is to use carbon paper and a cutter.
