I know in the past I've seen someone demonstrate using some sort of molding plastic as a way of quickly making cauls. The plastic becomes malleable in hot water, then hardens at room temperature - so as an example, the plastic can be formed around a loose brace, then used as a clamping caul after it cools.

Does anyone know where I can get some of this? I seem to recall Stewmac carrying some if it years ago, but there's no mention of it on their site.

I think LMI and Stewmac sell it. Otherwise I have some dental molding that is sort of like clay that can be reheated and reformed. You heat it up and put a layer of saran wrap to protect it from sticking to whatever your forming it to. I'm assuming you can get it from a dentist office but I got mine through school. Make sure to use the saran wrap or it will stick to watever it touches.

Thanks! I should have checked LMI, too. Google didn't do much for me.

My favorite store has UtilePlast in 3.5oz packs if you don't need a bucket of Friendly Plastic. Same stuff. Seriously cool store.
