I have 2 finished SS guitars that are going to a guitar shop for display/consignment. They do not have pickguards and I don't install them on my guitars because I am a finger picker. However, now that these guitars will be displayed and customers will have the opportunity to pick one up and play one, I want to protect the guitar. I do have pickguard adhesive sheets and could attach a wood pickguard, but don't want the hassle of later possible pickguard removal using the double sided adhesive sheets.
I was thinking about using small, flat, round cork cabinate door bumpers placed in 4-5 locations to temporarily attach a pickguard for easy removal later. I don't want to muffle the sound either....too much.
Any other suggestions for a temporary pickguard??????

Kent: There are guards that attach via static that may do the job. Think either LMI or StewMac stock them.

The rumor is that the static pickguard will attack nitro finish if left on. If someone is going to be putting one on and taking it off everytime someone picks up your guitar you're probably OK, but that's a lot to ask of a store. Don't think I would put one on and leave it there for any length of time. I don't like pickguards on my guitars but if one is going out the door with someone else and I am at all worried, I have put them on. Haven't had one come back yet, so they obviously didn't mind the pickguard.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I play fingerstyle an would not want to play without at least a clear pickguard, nails will do a lot of damage and it someone plays with banjo picks it is even worse. I guitar in a store will get damaged somehow no matter how you protect it. The cling- on guards should not be left on too long, the plastics will attack the lacquer
