This looks like a indistructable finish that could be used for a maple fretboard or any area that needs a tough finish. Has anyone tried it and what are your thoughts on it? http://www.por15.com/PELUCID/productinfo?PELG/

link doesn't work - had a look and seems to be coatings for metal, might not be so good for wood?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
