I have just listed in the classifieds an older flamenco guitar made by Jesus Diaz Reyes in Paracho, Mexico, that needs some repair/restoration work. It is not an especially valuable instrument, but it is a lovely flamenco guitar, handmade with very nice workmanship by a respected Mexican luthier. I'm guessing it is at least 40-50 years old. As you will see in the photo of the label, there is a second restoration label put in by Stringfellow Guitars, which was the early name of William Cumpiano's shop, so it has that interesting history as well.
I had thought I would repair/restore this guitar myself, but I am now facing the fact that I'm just not going to get around to it in the foreseeable future. I'm too busy with building and repairing steel string and electric guitars, not to mention working on a CD of original music, not to mention parenting, etc.
This would be an excellent learning opportunity for someone learning guitar building and repair, especially for those specifically interested in classical and flamenco guitars. Being a nice handmade instrument, it would be a lot more inspiring, challenging, interesting, and educational to work and learn on than your average yard sale junker. On the other hand, it's not an especially valuable or historically significant guitar, so you wouldn't have to sweat it too much if you made any mistakes in the process.
Check it out!
Thanks -
