I just opened a can of Stew-Mac Color Tone Sanding Sealer for Waterbased lacquer. It used to be very milky/cloudy... but this can is almost clear, like slightly muddy water.

Does anyone know... have they changed the formula? If so, is it compatible with the older one (I already have 2 coats of the old stuff on a guitar, and want several more coats) ??

Ken,
Stew Mac is pretty good about answering your questions so I'd recommend asking them. I used to use that stuff, now I don't even bother with sanding sealer and just use the regular finish as a sealer. But I do seem to remember it was a bit milky and in fact if I remember correctly once the can was open and left stored for the next guitar it even got more milky and almost toward a burnt looking color.

Well, I tried the stuff, and it wasn't adhering at all - I wiped it off immediately when I saw it making mini-craters.

Apparently I got a bad batch. S-M is sending a new Qt, free of charge. Great customer service!
