This is a little bit off topic. A friend of mine just arrived in Arizona with a Brazilian Rosewood Martin D28 that she bought new in the early 70's. There are 2 small cracks in the sounboard in the area of the pickguard, which is peeling off. There is also a small crack in 1 side on the lower bout. I got her humidifying the guitar as soon as she arrived, and she wants me to recommend a repair person in the area. Unfortunately I don't know anyone and told her to call Martin and see if they do. It's interesting that Martin told her in the past that, if she still had the receipt, they would repair it for free, but she doesn't have it anymore. Does anyone know a good repair person in the Phoenix area? They also told her the guitar is worth between $10,000-$20,000. Wendy

I've not used this guy but I've talked to him and he seems pretty knowledgeable. His name is Chuck Cellino I know he's a Taylor authorized repair shop not sure about Martin you might give him a call.

You might want to try Rich Beck

Address: 121 E Hermosa Drive Tempe, AZ 85282
Phone: 480-829-9630
E-Mail: Becksgtrs2@aol.com

He is undoubtedly a cantankerous old b*****d but he does know how to repair a guitar, as long as it is a valuable guitar....

Just don't ask him to repair or set up a Takamine ...

Hey, thanks Murray and Mark. I will pass the info along to my friend and I'm sure she will really appreciate it. Wendy

Good God, stay away from Rich Beck! I've seen the work myself he does on guitars he doesn't care about. Like murmac mentions, if it's 'worth it' to him he can do a good job but I'd go to either George Leach at phoenixguitarco.com or send it to Frank Ford at Gryphon. Not in Phx, but a solid bet.

Thanks Mike, I actually had taken an instrument to Beck many years ago and ended up not having him do the work. I didn't know that George Leach was doing repairs. I thought he was only building and teaching, but I will contact him and see. Thanks, Wendy

Call John Reuter at Roberto-Venn. If he can't do the repair, he can refer you to someone who can.
