Has anyone used the Chemcraft neutral pore filler without putting any tint into it? The rep at LMI says that it's transparent under finish. At least on padauk and EI rosewood, I seem to be getting white pores.

I've got no experience with that actual product, but aren't most "neutral" fillers kinda spruce colored? The only way it would be transparent under finish is if the wood matched the filler. I'd recommend tinting it with some trans tint. ( I guess this works with that filler)

Yes, most 'neutral' fillers are an off cream color. This is actually a darker color in the can. The reason I asked is that I was assured by a sales rep that it's clear under lacquer. I don't want to tint it. I already have enough pre-tinted silex based fillers. I want a clear/transparent filler--and, given the Colortone clear water based filler's reviews, I'm not trying that.

I might end up just having to go back to Z-Poxy, unless Seagreave eventually begins reproducting the old McFadden't clear filler. That stuff was great.

Anyway, has any body out there used the Chemcraft neutral? If not, do you know of any other Non-z/poxy, non-colortone clear pore fillers? Thanks in advance.

This stuff works great. It's waterbased, but it's nothing like the colortone stuff.

Rosewood will take ~3 coats. It dries quickly, you can re coat in an hour. Be SURE and wear some type of mask when sanding it. It contains silica.

Thanks, Woody. Like the solvent based fillers, can this be used after a light coat of vinyl sealer, or should it be used directly on the bare wood?

I think it can be used either way. I put it directly on the wood. It does a decent job of sealing difficult to seal woods like Rosewood.
