Hey guys,

I have an interesting situation coming up ahead of me in July of 2011.

I am moving to the Australian Gold Coast for two years to study my masters in marketing and I don't want to leave guitar making behind. I was wondering if any of you might be in that area or know of any luthiers who operate out of that area.

I am looking to apprentice in a shop or just rent out some time in the shop to work on projects and maintain my skills. I have a small operation here in Canada and my first 13 guitars are coming to completion slowly over the next few months.

Anyone who might have some advice or know of any credible luthiers in the area I would definitely appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for taking the time guys!

Try looking up a guy named Alan Hamley.
I don't know if he lives near there,
but a real nice guy with good energy.
There is an Australian luthiers forum he is on.
Good luck with the move.
Sounds fun!

Talk to Gerard Gilet of Gilet Guitars. A really good guy! He is close to Sidney so may be a ways south of where you will be living.

Alan Hmaley lives in Townsville. Quite a comute from the Gold Coast. About 2 days if you drive like mad each way.

I'm further up the coast in Cairns, so a bit out of the question too.

There are lots of luthiers in the Gold Coast region though. Ask us on the ANZLF and you might get some offers.
