Anyone ever use a power miter saw to cut this 15 degree cut? Will it work accurately?

If you have the reach in the blade, I dont see why not .... but you still might have to touch it up with a plane. I just cut it close on the bandsaw, then clean up with a plane .. it takes about 4 minutes and its ready to glue ... try it, its not that hard.

I just did it on my number one, made up a little 90 degree fence and it didn't go so well. I was able to plane everything flat after wards though. I think the ticket would be to make a wedge style fence so your neck blank is better supported and the saw blade would be fully adjusted left. I think I could make it work a lot better and will try it again next time.

That's what I do as well - except I built a simple sled, at 15 degrees, which fits into the guide slot on my bandsaw. It's still not totally accurate, and you have to feed it very slowly until the blade cuts the angle properly (bandsaw likes to deflect away from the angle of the neck blank), but it works fine after a few passes of a sharp plane.

yes. i dont see the point of setting up fences at the best of times. bandsaw by hand and then clamp the neck and headstock (spun round) together and plane the both together. perfecto! i also go 13 degrees.

This thread will save me time and forearm stress....I was taught to use a sanding block to true the 15 degree pieces. Never even thought about using a plane...duh! I'll be doing that on my next one. Have always dreaded the scarf cutting because the bandsaw isn't super accurate, even with my very clever jig, and have had to sand for a long time before getting a perfect joint. Thanks guys! Beth
