we discussed a little while back about building a guitar "stash" and ive felt pretty reluctant to buy anything too pricey or anything that i didnt feel comfortable building with right away. ive been pretty bummed about some very nice sets that ive watched come and go because i hesitated or just didnt feel right spending the money. well i finally bought something that i know im not going to build with for at least a few guitars. its an above average set of ziricote that i payed what i thought was a reasonable price. check it out.

Looks like a good set for #15 or so! Very pretty!

Nice!
Look forward to seeing the pics and hearing the soundclip.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Beautiful set. That should bring a smile to your face as often as you look at it. And how do you put a price on that?
I'd say money well spent!

Wonderful set, definitely a good carrot to keep you building :) I saw it on RC earlier today and thought about buying it. Or the smaller one. But then I decided I have enough wood and it was fairly expensive so I didn't.

I also want this macassar from Allied though:

To go with this awesome sinker top I got from Cool Tools:

And inlay this bookmatched pair of camatillo rosewood headplates on the back. It looks like a dragon face, so I'd cut it out like such, or possibly shave to make it narrower like the second version:

That macassar sapwood is just such a great place for the big dragon inlay...

I think I need an addiction counselor.

Exactly what popped into my head too! I was eyeballing that set at one point, but didn't have the funds. Nice pickup!

Thanks a lot for this thread and showing me the ebony [headinwall] I've been convincing myself for the past 3 weeks I don't need any of that and now I just bought one.

yeah, that mac ebony has been haunting me as well. i almost pulled the trigger quite a few times.

im thinking about buying that piece that dennis wants just to save it from having a dragon inlayed into it! eek just playin', bro. ;)

alexandru, that is an awesome piece of wood. i dont think you are going to regret that.

 You think my dragon is tacky? It was the tree's idea, not mine Eat Drink
You might save me $200 though. I could just as easily inlay that thing into a 3 piece back of maple and EIR for similar effect.

But... Alexandru has one now...
