The thread on volutes made me think about the binding on the headstock. I have yet to bind one, but it is going to happen on the next guitar so I am curious. Of course I am looking for ideas on what looks good so would like to see some.

Fred, I like to keep it pretty simple, but if I do it, it's fancy on the side instead of the top.

This is a recent Bouzouki build. I generally like to keep the body purfling theme running up the fretboard and around the headstock.

Hot off the knife, still needs a little sanding to smooth the rounding of the bindings. Curly maple with rosewood laminate. Those top pieces were tricky to bend, and the one on the left has a little split visible in it up close. Overall pretty successful though. Those miters came out better than I'd hoped for.

Thanks guys those are some cool headstocks. I am not a big fan of excess bling but these are all cool and not too far over the top. I have one question and that is the depth of the cut, is it only the depth of the overlay or can it be deeper than that? I guess it would look best if it ends at the nut or can it extend under the nut to the fingerboard.

I'm not real happy with the mitres on this one. Those short pieces at the top were a real bear to do. Next time... I'll probably re-work the peghead shape to make it simpler.
As always, the quality of work shown here is inspiring!
