Hi

Do you know of any video that shows the stew-mac dovetail templates and jig in use?

I don't have a video, but here are some photos of the jigs I made and the cutting...

Here's what it looks like...

As far as hand fitting the joint, John Hall's Utube vids are the best.

This is a video of Jon Simpson's demo of his neck jig which is similar to what StewMac has.

Thanks for posting that Fred. I'm going to have to modify my jigs!

Thanks Fred for the link.

Its is not the same one as I know have seen elsewhere which I can't find anymore.

Pity about the music as I have difficulty in concentrating on what he is saying - I drift off quite easily (must be a 50's moment)

This has given me something to think about as I was thinking of buying the Stew Mac templates, but I have to make the jig to go with them.

Maybe I'll make another post to see if anyone else is using one of these

Thanks

John

There are a few members who have purchased Jon's jig including myself, I have not used mine yet but it is well made and reasonably priced. Jon has these on EBay once in a while or check his web site.

Thanks Fred.

Not used it yet, too much time on the Internet and not enough time in the workshop - maybe laughing6-hehe

Thanks for your valuable advice

John

When I bought it I was beyond necks on the 3 guitars I was working on and have not started a new one yet. My shop and rest of my basement is in its 3rd week of being restored from 8" of water from a bad storm. I probably will not use it for a few months as I don't do much building in the summer.

After viewing Fred's post with the link this afternoon, and watching the video for the 3rd time this year, I contacted Jon and bought one from his Ebay site. He shipped it right afterwards. Guess I won't be building the Woolson jig.

Hello - I'm kinda late coming in but here's my two-cents worth: a friend bought the jig and loved it. I saw the results and bought one myself, but before I did I had some questions. I contacted John via email and found the guy to be very approachable and very helpful in answering my questions. I'd rather spend my $ with someone like that than StewMac any day. I'm just sayin....
