Hi, I'm new in this forum... [uncle]
I've read about teak wood from Australian Tonewoods site and Hibdon Hardwood site, but I 've no answer about the application of this wood for making instrument like accoustic guitars.
Maybe you have known about teak and what part is the best for making accoustic guitars like back, sides or top...

The only characteristics that would physically *PREVENT* you from using any particular wood is the ability to Glue it.... If you can't glue it -- you can't make a guitar out of it....

Teak is known for being Oily and hard to glue.... Do you know how to make reliable glue joints in Teak? If so, go ahead and use it.

Hide glue sticks fine on freshly scraped surfaces, the real challenge may be getting the finish to fully cure or resawing without trashing your blade.

I have glued lots of teak with titebond, I always wiped with lacquer thinner before gluing, just to be careful. It definitely wears on blades, but it is more abrasive then hard. We even used water based finishes on it, just need a good sealer. I think that the oiliness would be a detriment to tone, it is just weight without strength, but I have no experience with making an instrument with it, love to hear some experienced answers.

Usually I built furniture with this Teak wood. And I can glue it for small part furniture with glue like Evobond. It contains: ethyl cyanoacrylate. application: for plastic, wood, rubber, metal, leather, ceramics. It is hard glue and it works. And I think teak is not so oily at all.

But response from some musician friend said that: sound quality produces damped (maybe dead) for electric guitar.
If I compare for the hardness from Australian Tonewoods Site, (hardness 1-20); Burma Teak is 4.5 the same as USA Black Walnut 4.5, New South Wales mountain silky oak 4.7; Papua New Guinea rosewood 4.7; Tasmania Southern Sassafras 4.7.....

absolutely, if I glued over flow, it's more abrasive then hard. and I used water sandpaper to finishes on it. Maybe other friend have experience with making an accoustic guitar with Teak... please tell me,,, thank's

I've never built with it, but from everything I've read about it, it's considered a pretty dead tone wood. Perhaps others can share some real experience.

My son just finished his first guitar with what I think is teak. His brother in law brought it back from a furniture shop in a remote Cambodian village. It was too short for sides so he joined two sections. The wood was dense but since it was a little spalted maybe not as dense as most teak. As far as sound goes, the guitar is quite loud and rumbling with shimmering highs and tremendous sustain. It's mated with a sitka top that favors the fundamentals rather than overtones. Of course all of that could be due to a lot of other factors rather than the teak back and sides which had a dull tap tone. There was no trouble gluing it with a fresh surface and LMI white glue.

I know that Todd had some teak back and sides once at Allied.

it's wonderful guitar I think... this is some Indonesian Teak that's cut to size Parquet. The hardness, varied from soft to hard depend on type and age.
Actually yore Teak comes from Burma.

That back is gorgeous Ken. Very neat guitar.
