Hey all,

I picked up a beat up Fender Athena acoustic -- had a split top from someone scalloping the braces a bit too much....

Anyone here ever fooled with Fender Acoustic neck joints -- I am going to pull the neck for the re-top process.... and I am wondering what to expect?

Any ideas? Is it some sort of dovetail or is it the cheap-o Chinese dowel-butt joint that we see on so many 199.99 Guitars?

Thanks

John

I'm not familiar with the Athena, but I had a friend recently give me a '70s (I think) Fender Californian and it did indeed have a dowelled butt-joint. The neck had pulled off clean at the joint.
I had never seen such a thing and my jaw literally dropped...was wondering how in the world that joint could withstand the forces of string pull etc...I guess the answer in this case is that it didn't!
