In larger bands where the group is playing to a large audience running through extremely powerful sound systems, there is a common practice of using a cover in the soundhole of acoustic guitars to prevent feedback at high volume.
Can one assume that if a guitar was constructed without a soundhole and equipped with a pickup system, you'd get good feedback resistance?
I am not planning on building an acoustic without a soundhole. Rather, what I am contemplating is building a chambered electric with a spruce top and acoustic bridge, using an undersaddle pickup. I am not looking for unplugged tone. I simply want to be able to plug into a good acoustic amp or PA and get plugged in acoustic tone, but every guitar player I talk to seems to think I'd get more feedback, not less, without some kind of soundhole. What do you guys think?

I don't know the answer to your question but I think you'll find this interesting. I don't have a need for a plug in acoustic but for some reason I really wish I had bought one of these.

Cool! Thanks for the link. That is exactly what I'm talking about doing. Nice to know it's been done. Gives me something to shoot for.
