Hi Guys

I'm just stringing up a newly finished Bouzouki for the first time. I'm using Grover Mini 18:1 Locking tuners (again for the first time).

First impressions - Bouzouki sounds great

BUT

The A strings keep snapping when they get up to Pitch!!!!!???? I've tried it 3 times! I'm stringing GDAD.

I've never come across this before. Any ideas? I've used two sets of strings so I don't think it's from a bad set.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Mat

If it is the same string and the break is at the same place, look for a sharp edge or something binding in the area of the break. If the offending string is an Elixir in the .024 range of size join the club of broken strings. I use Elixir light and medium nanoweb strings and I swear the core of the G string is made of cream cheese.

Thanks Fred - I'll look straight away.

It's the 0.018 A string

What's the scale length? Are you possibly pushing the limits of an 018" string? Are both of them breaking?

Ok, Problem solved.

I changed to a different brand of strings and went with 16's.

All is now well but thanks for the swift replies

Mat
