does anyone have any numbers of top surface areas for any of the popular shapes? OM, dread, J-185, etc.? just for the sake of comparison. im designing my own shape and id like to see where it falls. thanks.

Outlining the perimeter of a shape using turbocad (or similar?) will generate an area calculation. If no list turns up, you could do it this way.

well, to be truthful i found a few examples in the archives. when i exported my design from "G thang" into rhino cad, i ran the measurement on the area and it came out around 210 square inches accounting for the sound hole. the examples i found in the archives (dread, OM, and J-185) were around 60 square inches. i was just puzzled by this and unsure if i was doing something wrong or if the information i came across in the archives was wrong. for me, just thinking logically, if you take a 8" by 8" square, which will easily fit into the shape of any of those guitars listed, you already have 64 square inches. thats why i was having a hard time with the numbers.

thanks for chiming in dave. im interested what others have to say as well.

60 inches is about the length of the perimeter .... just taking a rough guess .. assuming that the shape averages out to about 12 wide by 20 long ... thats 240 sq inches.
