AND-as I said, Tippie is right in there too. This is a guitar for me-to replace a "once in a lifetime" guitar my mentor helped me build in 1973-sold for well used tuition for my daughter(primary special needs teacher and school consultant).
On the last two I have had going, and still very slowly going , I used body-shaped(OM-15,25) radius dishes and spool clamps with speedy jig knobs and I like this for closing and of course the arching of braces with the sandpaper on-I leave it on for the box-closing. So, with my new bent sides and finding my shooting board for joining backs and plates, I am gearing up. John will do the bothersome shaping of Martin radii dishes to sloper outline and sell me other needed stock for components-I already have his mold. I told JJ it is my "Elder Hands Friendly Special." Short scale, 12 fret to body-a compact dread. I'm going with a dry M/T bolt-on neck for ease in action set-up-it seems that those extra 6 strings can make for some tail chasing. Neck is semi-from scratch-a Bob C./ N.Palen maple laminated blank that had enough wood to move things for the short scale. Two-way Allied TR-possibly carbon fiber on either side. I need to find the article here on the jig for M/T routing.Or, I do have some very good Honduras billets from Hibdon that are actually for LP necks-I'll listen to suggestions about using a mahogany neck.
I am very excited about getting going again and I'm trying to complete those two slow goers to warm up skills. I'm still up in the air on finishes-I am so comfortable with drying oils, yet I have gotten a bit better with FP. I guess I'll practice one of each.
Yes, EXCITED -thanks!
