Has anybody ever converted their WC jig into a "microfence" type tool? Seems like it ought to be possible to make a removable attachment. Anybody ever priced a microfence? Yeesh!

Mike

Shouldn't be too hard.

Edit: should be able to take the piece that has the centering pin in it and remove the pin then drill and tap one edge for a small fence.

Take a look at the Bishop Cochran router/fence. I think you could fashion a front plate like that one.

Should be easy enough .. simply add a square/rectangular piece of UHMW plastic to the bottom of the movable shoe (part with the pin,) and you can make it slide under the router base portion ... instant fence

BTW .. Its Karol ... with a K .... oops_sign

Yeah, I know, my bad. Thanks Tony. [:Y:]

John, google microfence and you will see what I mean. Seems a good feature to add to this very useful fixture. One could use it to rout out a channel for a back strip among other things I have not thought of yet. Though I would NEVER trust the edge of the work piece as a guide, one could be fashioned using an MDF work surface and some double sided tape (to hold the work piece down). If ya do it, you'll have to rename it. ;)

Mike

Edit: It just ocurred to me that it could also be adapted to cut peghead slots...!!

Microfence system = very high quality, function, ease of use, accuracy, price....but worth every penny IMO (I love mine) [:Y:]

Cheers,
Dave F.

I've added a guide block on the bottom of mine Mike. Really easy to do. I can use it for routing truss rod channels (if I didn't use the router table) and I've used it for routing back strip channels, which is what I'm doing in these pictures. Notice that I have a block on each side of the bit ;)

The microfence is certainly one of the nicest tools I own. But it is way pricey, especially all the attachments and do dads, for each additional router adapter $40? Two rods drilled into a stick of aluminum. I was able to justify it doing curved doors and windows, and would not justify it for guitars,(I make windows for cash) but glad to have one, I have been adapting it for the foredom, this is a pic using it to trim the ribs, I also did the rosette with it. I got the right sized tap to help save on the adapters and such.

I think the key is a good drill press, if you can drill with great precision, you can make this sort of thing, the microfence is nice because it is all stainless rods and high quality aluminum, nicely machined and pretty well designed.
