How does one pore fill for example curly spalted maple? I'm using it for my headpiece rosette and but-strip. It is quite porus. I obviously don't want to change the look of the spalt in any significant way.

Seal it with blond shellac or thin lacquer.
Then use med. ca to fill.
Then sand level.

If your spalted wood is not 'in the guitar' already, it can make it machine/cut a lot more cleanly if you hit it with thin CA first.
Whether you are applying CA/shellac/lacquer, it will soak it up like a sponge in some areas.
I use spalted wood in rosettes and generally do the CA 'thing' before I cut the ring with the router -much cleaner edges.

I don't know about guitars but when I have carved spalted wood I apply thin CA, let it set up and then work with it. I have a friend who used to turn spalted wood and he also put thin CA on it and then used his turning tools on it. However, I don't know how to do it on a guitar as I have not used it on a guitar.
