Ok...I can't stop experimenting. I've got a OM shape (payne plans) ready for a top and want to try a dual soundhole on each side of the upper bout. I haven't done any top bracing yet. ..... Looks like I can fit the soundholes in above the OM style X bracing OK but will need to alter the upper Transverse brace. Transverse won't move downward quite enough without butting into the X bracing....and then it won't give adequate support for the neck block area.
Possible solution: Should I move the X bracing down at the upper bout/waist and lower the transverse...then tie in 2 diag supports (A frame) from each side of the the neck block upper bout to the center of the transverse brace.
Any suggestions from this creative bunch?
K Bailey

I don't know much about this sort of thing, so this is just kind of a shot in the dark, but have you thought about doing some sort of ladder bracing? It seems that could at least work spacially. I can't say anything for the sound though. Just a thought.

Can you alter the shape of the holes to fit the existing braces?

Kent-
I don't know if it will help, but Simplicio made some classical guitars with 'dual soundholes' beside the fingerboard. They were more or less half-circular in shape.
A search should turn up some info.

The pic shows a Paul Fischer lattice with dual soundholes.
C.F. Vega's online comment on this pic vs Simplicio was:
"Simplicio's guitars in this style (there were only a few of them made) utilized seven long fan braces without the diagonal closing bars at the butt end, a cross bar above and below the soundholes and two short, angled braces on either side of the soundholes. "

I think some of the lattice bracing ideas from classicals would work well in SS guitars, but haven't tried this myself. I believe Jeremy Clark made some SS guitars with lattice bracing.

Some food for thought!

Cheers
