What is the difference between the Sent Messages and the Outbox?

I have 3 PM's that I sent early today that are in my Outbox, but the rest of the PM's I have been sending over the last few days of the Swapapalooza are in my Sent messages area?

thanks,
chris

Hey Chris,

Don't know if this it the right answer, but I noticed that happening as well, and it appeared to be a "timing" issue. My messages would be in the Outbox until the system actually "processed" the message, then it would show up in the Sent box.

Chris-
I think the message moves to a different Box when it is 'picked up' by the recipient.
Until then, you can edit the message- which can be a handy feature.

Cheers
John

Edward and John,

I am relieved and perturbed if you are correct. If this is true, I have PM's that just haven't been opened by folks that purchased items in the swap today, but, I also have a slew if PM's from months and years past(Dec. 20, 2007 and before) that people have not opened. (I can only think that maybe the transfer to the new forum system may have made these old PM's go there???).

Any ideas on the additional info?

thanks,
chris

Chris I think its pretty easy to miss that you have a PM. Theres no email notification that I know of (correct me if I am wrong but I have never gotten one) or any warnings when you come to the site other than the little "0" up there changing to a "1". As for the software change, I dont know, it is very possible but you would be better to ask the admins.

Hmm... I just sent a PM to someone who may have never received one before and then checked the sent and outbox. Just as John and Edward predicted, it was in the outbox but not the sent. Now I lay me down to sleep... if I wake.. hopefully Edward will have checked his PM's and when I check my sent one's, that will list there instead.
If this works, I will be reissuing PM's from 2007 soon! How stale will those comments be??? Doh!

You can set your options so that you will get a small window pop up that tells you that you have a PM when you log in. Its under
User Control Panel
Edit Global Settings

Pop up window on new private message: Yes No

I get an email when I get a PM also. It is in your settings.

All PM's can be set for email notification and pop up window. You do have to set your pop-up blocker to accept pop-up's from the forum, though, or you'll see nothing, except the number of messages at the top of the page.
