Who's going to the Newport Guitar Festival in Hollywood, Florida? April 16, 17, 18.

I'm attending, and will be bringing my contribution to the Dennis Merrill "Sonic Sitka" exhibit. Hope to see you there!!

Hi Corky,
We will be there. Looking forward to meeting you. We missed each other at HB 09. Don't forget to stop by our table and pick up your SSP sign too.

Is this geared towards building with building seminars like ASIA and GAL or towards playing?

I am not exhibiting but I might try and make it down for a day. It would be nice to meet in person a bunch of friends I've met over the years.

I'm going just because Evan is.
He knows where the best Pastrami sandwiches are, and he's buying.

I am actually buying a table Steve and will be making pastrami and corned beef next to Gril Laskin.
I always thought his guitars needed to smell like Katz's Deli!
Looking forward to seeing you and I assume you know where the good BBQ is. :)
best, Evan

I'll be there! I'm sharing a table Evan, I'll be making the Matzah Ball soup!

By the way Evan, Its Grit Laskin, not Gril Laskin. Although grilled Laskin doesn't sound half bad.

So what's the story on this Newport? From what I can tell by the add it's looks like it's pretty much for selling guitars and geared towards players and not builders. I don't see anything like building workshops listed.

mmm, Katz's deli. They were featured on a Man v. Food episode.
Looked absolutely heavenly.
Let's all go there, instead.

No we are having the grilled potato Laskins (latkes) with the Matzo ball soup.
(funny I corrected a typo and did not see Gril) I think I saw the Katz's episode.
It only takes 1 hour to get there and back from my shop. Hmmmm my next client is at
2pm Should I go for it Steve? :)

Chris - yes, you're right. It's more of a player's focused event, with many builders showing their wares. (so I hear - this will be my first). Not an ASIA or GAL event. Perhaps I chose the wrong thread.

My opportunity for attending came through Denis Merrill's "Sonic Sitka" project. He cut about 100 tops from one Sitka Spruce and gave them to 100 builders to build whatever they liked. The only stipluation - you had the bring the guitar to Newport (or a subsequent event), to be shown, and sonically tested. Sounded like fun, and Dennis was open to an amateur participating, so I signed up.

Regards,

Corky, why not show us your guitar? (Or is that part of the project, that it stays under wraps until the unveiling?) Anyway, I look forward to seeing it/you, and other OLF brethren.

Chris, I'm hoping against hope that it's geared to buyers!
This will be my first time to attend Newport, and I'm assuming that it will be somewhat like Healdsburg. Which will indeed make it different from GAL and ASIA.

Evan, GO. And give Katz's my regards.
Someday, my friend, we're going there!

Steve

I started a new thread for this, but then thought I should add it to this thread as well...

If you haven't yet settled your accommodations for the Newport show, there's a very nice inn right on the beach that's owned by a friend of a friend of mine. It would be a big step up from your run-of-the-mill hotel down there, and it's not much more expensive than the budget places. I think you'd be quite pleased. They tell me it's about 15 minutes drive to the show (it's quite close, but with traffic and all, y'know). I was going to stay there, and then I got an offer from a friend to stay with her. Tell them I sent you.
