At last! An event devoted exclusively to fine guitars and lutherie in South East Asia! In keeping with their philosophy of promoting music making, Guitarbench.com announces the launch of the Singapore Guitar Show in 2010.

Our aim: to spread the word about these artists and artisans who devote their lives to this amazing instrument, and their fabulous instruments.

The date is set for Oct 2-3, and the venue at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. The Suntec convention center features a climate controlled, secure environment with a large amount of foot traffic and easy amenities within walking distance.

The exhibit aims to attract players, collectors and dealers to experience a range of handcrafted/ high end acoustic instruments. This would be a chance not only to sell directly, but also to network with regional buyers & dealers. The exhibit will have a mixture of flattop guitars, classical, slide guitars and ukuleles on display.

The target audience will be regional from the S.E Asian region but we foresee visitors from the ANZ region, Japan and China to attend also.

We’d love to invite you to attend in our inaugural year. For this inaugural year, the fees for luthiers are capped at $100 Singapore Dollars per table but please hurry as spaces a limited!

Glad to hear this is happening. My brother and his family have lived in Singapore for something like 15 years. I visited them there in 1997 (the only time I've been there) and used there home as a base for traveling around SE Asia for 5 months (I spent a life-changing month in a remote Karenni village on the Thai-Burmese border, but that's another story). Haven't been able to make it back since, but would love to visit them there, and this would be a great impetus.

I won't be able to attend this year, but if the show is successful and happens again in 2011 or 2012, I will try to make it happen.

Initially, from reading your post, I thought the show was going to be limited to makers from that region, but then it sounded like makers from other parts of the world are welcome to exhibit. If the latter is true, I will definitely be interested - just not this year.

I can't attend, but I am wondering, is this Singapore Guitar Show about promoting individual Asian luthiers and their handmade guitars or about Asian Factory guitars?

Hi Rene,

we are splitting the exhibitors between individual luthiers (from anywhere- although the main bulk will be from the Pacific region) and dealers who are encouraged to display their small shop guitars (think Bourgeois/ Goodall).
