Here is a picture of my first attempt at a rosette (J. S. Bogdanovich style).

A few voids that I'll fill in as I progress with some CA + sawdust, etc. But overall, for a first attempt, I'm quite pleased.

Question: Should I fill in the voids at the top where I didn't bring my strips all the way to the cut to help with structural integrity? I know they will be covered by the fretboard and will get filled in with glue, but....

Thanks

Steve-
Looks great!
Did you make your own 'wheat' purfling?
You don't have very big voids under the fingerboard- I wouldn't worry about them myself, if the board is going to be glued to the top. You have a transverse brace under there somewhere?
Rather than 'filling' them with glue, my inclination would be to leave voids as-is or use a dab of wood filler to make up the volume, sand flat and then glue down the fingerboard.
Cheers
John

Yes, did the wheat myself. Took a while and a few attempts. It will definitely be better next time. I'm quite pleased, however, for a first attempt.

The spalt is Curly Spalted Maple from the Zootman. The headstock, end-cap and tail strip will all be from the same spalt. The guitar (maple back/sides) I think will turn out nice.

Looks great Steve. As for the voids- you can fill them if it makes you feel better but not necessary. :P

Spectacular work on that rosette.

Excellent rosette! Did you make the wheat yourself? It looks great.
