Check out this koa. Its on a 0 sized guitar that will soon have a koa neck, as soon as it comes back from Craig Lavin where is is being festooned with shell fish parts. This wood is the most unusual koa I have seen or worked with. the blistered pattern resemples birds eye (kindof) and the wood was every bit as hard as Indian Rosewood, with a rosewood like taptone. I just got the box back from Tony and thought it was interesting enough to show. The binding is cocobolo from a plank that my brother and I found a Cormark in Asheville.
Thanks for looking

Stunning!

I have a back set with about 1/10th that figure, and have been looking for several years for (affordable) medium blistered/quilted Koa. This was a very lucky find on your part!

I'm glad this wood found its way into your capable hands.

Dennis

Holy cow, bro! That wood is outrageous!
Grain like that had to hurt the tree as it grew, don't you think?
That was nice unfinished, but with a finish it's amazing.

I want some....

I think you are right bro. It must something akin to growing bunions or corns on your toes. Tree probably never gets comfortable. I tried to talk a lot of koa kraving kustomers into this set but couldn't interest anyone until Bob S. came along. I always thought it had potential.
This set came from the Zoot man himself, uncle Bob.
I appreciate all of your comments.

Sorry Ricordo no straight on back shot, but I do have this frontal view showing a cedar top and some cocobolo in the rosette.

That's just beautiful! As beautiful as it is unusual! What a great look with the Cocobolo.
