Has anyone built a square neck guitar for slide? I saw a Oahu square neck and it looked like a regular guitar about the size of a 000... but with an elevated nut and bridge. I would guess that they sound kinda like a weissenborn. These are generally tuned down to G or D, so the string tension probably isn't an issue. Any comments?

Kent Schoonover has a brilliant design to support the top, but it is a resophonic guitar. Check Harper Resophonics website. In addition to resos, he makes a traditionally braced square neck and it is documented on his site. Looks like he just leaves his tone bars a little heavier. I'm sure the higher saddle will increase the tension a bit, but I'm not sure how much. I had a Martin D-28 set up for lap style with a higher nut and saddle and it seemed to handle it ok, but the tone was a little weak.
I'd be interested in hearing about your progress if you build one. I have some Koa set aside for one, but it's on a back burner until I complete a few other things.
