Hi,

I about to close up my first every guitar (classical) this weekend so I have started to think about bindings. Im planning on using shellac finish (i.e. french polish) and im wondering if the shellac will adhere to plastic bindings? Are there any issues with using plastic bindings with shellac/fp finish?

I have a set of wood and plastic binding/purfling the plastic set is black binding, BW purfling with the wood set comprising of maple/BWB bindling and block patterned purfling. Im trying to work out which would look better on a Engelmann Spruce/EIR ?

If Shellac doesnt work with plastic the decision is out of my hands, if plastic is ok with shellac then Im unsure which to use.

Advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Anthony

Shellac will adhere to plastic with no problems. It will impart a slight amber hue depending upon the color and grade of the shellac you use.

Yep, shellac will stick to nearly anything.
