The last 3 guitar from my shop have been rosewood with zebrawood binding. I started to cut my own and book match it , I think it makes for a great appearance.

That's pretty cool John. In your opinion, if you weren't the guy doing the book match, would it be noticeable. I think it looks great in the photo. I have a few boards of that kicking around.

The Zebra on the top is unique also. I will be selling bookmatched zebra bindings $12 a set of 4. I like to cut is at a slight angle to show the grain better . Glad you like it , but it looks better in person.

I always try to bookmatch my bindings; the two pieces should mirror at the tail if at all possible, and the next two sequential cuts on the other face (back and front matching). I sorted my slab of precut bindings from Gurian that way, matching them up in the order they're cut and taping them together.

I find this interesting . Most wood bindings are mundane and the grain doesn't stand out . I am looking at sycamore also as a bookmatched binding for the same reason , the figure just screams it . To be totally honest , we cut the bindings for the 1st guitar and the bookmatch was more of a mistake than planned .
We had them in our hands and figured what the hay and in the end we loved the result . Use it if you like it .

Great idea. I love it. I guess I'll get some zebra wood.

The zebrawood I've handled has had pretty dramatic hard/soft alternating grain.
Any tricks to keeping it all level?
Or is is just the boards I've had?

the bindings leveled nicely without any trouble. The nice part is when staining , you don't have to scrape the bindings, I let the stain in the binding as the contrast is enough to set the 2 woods apart.

Oh book match top to bottom! I have only done side to side.
Looks really good! Ill have to try it!
