I have joined several forums , and read and ask alot of probably dumb questions . And I would like to state unequvically that the people HERE are the nicest ones I talk to . More laid back and easier to chat with . I have asked the same question here , and at other forums . here Ive gotten good insight and kind suggestions and patient attitudes . while at the other got "attitude " so I would like to say THANK YOU to all here for that !

I wasn't here in the very beginning but when I got here it was just a group of folks who all had a common goal and that was of course to build killer acoustic guitars. I say acoustic because the electric section, resonators, etc were added later.

The hallmark of the OLF to me back then was also the helpfulness and all of us greatly benefited from the contributions of a few pros who endeavored to get us to think about the solutions to common Lutherie problems. In addition to the learning, and there was a LOT of that...., there was a very friendly atmosphere here even friendlier than it is today and this, IMHO, was because of some pretty special participants. It was not uncommon for a thread to be about what one had for breakfast with lots of joking and flirting with the the standard and rules. Back then the guiding standard for behavior was that Lance wanted to be able to have his 7 year old daughter on his lap and read the forum. Hey isn't she older now???? :D

Amazingly that standard was all it took for several years for nearly everyone to willingly comply and as a result we all had a great time. Fights and disagreements of a personal nature were very few and far between. Everyone made a huge contribution here in their own way and somehow it just worked and worked very well too.

If Lance and Brock needed something to help keep the lights on they just asked and everyone made it happen. Our sponsors in many cases also became our friends and as such disagreements over commercial activities with sponsors rarely if ever happened.

The OLF is a huge success story and IMHO the foundation that this community has always been built on has been friendliness and helpfulness. We are just the current iteration of members who are carrying out this very worthy tradition.

As always - thanks to Lance and Brock for the OLF AND thanks to every member too for which there would be no OLF community without you. [:Y:]

Lance and Brock -

Thanks for the work you do to keep the lights on here.

I use this forum every day... the depth of experience of the participants, and the willingness to share with newbies such as myself to be extraordinarily unique. Without this forum, I really wouldn't know where to go to get perspective on all the issues that I'm trying to address in my building.

And the general good will of participants in 99.9% of the exchanges really just makes my day. You people are all the kinds of people I choose to spend time with - and the ability to do it among natives of US, Canada, Australia, Europe, and the rest of the world is wonderful.

Of the three or four other guitar forums I've joined there are two I keep going to and this is the one I go to first and most often. I really enjoy the friendliness and quality of information I get here. [:Y:] [:Y:]

I'm sorry, but this forum is just too stodgy for me to even bother to post here! I have had, however, over 5000 accidental posts! :D

I agree completely with all the positive comments. Absolutely the best forum I've ever joined.
Special thanks to Lance and Brock, and it's really good to see Hesh back. Even if I get
"clean shop envy" every time he posts a picture laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe

Yes, I agree, but how can we keep it this way forever? It seems like as sites grow and grow, they get more impersonal. Maybe luthiers are just a nicer breed!

I've been associated with clubs, organizations and groups all my life and most good ones are just like this Forum. All have their issues...but I can surely say this Forum is very easy going and a wonderful example of the kind and generous people that build guitars for a living and for pleasure. Lots of different views. Makes you think beyond the plans.
Thanks to everyone here.
