I'm curios, how does Granadillo sound compared to other Rosewoods? We had a nice thread recently that compared East Indian, Honduran, Brazillian, and another rosewood (Panama?) and I'm wondering where Cocobolo and Granadillo compare to those rosewoods. I think it's related to Cocobolo. Is it's tone similar to Cocobolo? I've heard more EIR so a comparison to EIT would be useful.

Are you talking about Granadillo (Platymiscium spp.), or the little known Dalbergia (true Rosewood) that I had never even heard of until Bob C offered some?

The Platymiscum spp. (yucatanum, pinnatum) species are not true Rosewoods. But, they smell floral when cut, are very dense and hard, have closed pores, and absolutely ring like a gong when tapped.

I have a standing bet that no one, not one single player or luthier on the planet, could tell Platymiscium yucatanum from one of the true Rosewoods when built into a guitar. A large pile of organic mashed potatoes is the prize. (But the real prize is that there are a lot of woods that can substitute - at least sonically - for other woods, taking pressure off the threatened and soon to be listed as threatened species.)

It (Granadillio) has less bass than EIR or Coco. More comparable to Honduran without the gong like sustain.

Dennis, I was referring to the Dalbergia Granadillo like Bob C sells.
