I just wanted to keep everyone up to date. Last weekend I processed the last of the logs I had targeted for the sale. When I posted the sale I figured I had about 400 sets worth of wood, well I processed 450 sets. Problem is I sold 600 or so sets in the sale. So I just came in from one of my heated wood storage sheds and after sorting through some of the 4 or 500 sets in there I can cover the remaining sets from that wood. Non of it is perfect, but it was wood that I would not sell as 3A or Mastergrade but always felt was better than 1 or 2A. So I just kept putting it away "for myself". Well, it seems I am always cutting more sets and I will likely only build a few guitars in my life time so I will be completing the orders from this wood. The last sets on the drying rack are nearly dry and I will be starting to package and ship next week. In the end I decided to wait until the sets were ready so I could ensure that everyone received a fair mix of all of the sets. Once all of the sets are shipped I will be starting on the new high grade logs and some of those sets will be ready near the end of February.

Thanks again for the support in the sale and for your patience in receiving these tops. I hope you find the wait worth it!

Shane

Sounds very interesting Shane and I think that all the folks appreciate your effort to distribute equally. Thanks for the update and hope the new logs work out.

Shane, This is a bit of a hijack but I have a question. I know it's been discussed before but what exactly is Lutz Spruce? I know it is a variant of Sitka or a cross between Sitka and ?. I have heard that some trees will display quite different physical characteristic depending on where they grow. ( latitude, altitude, west side of the mountain, east side, etc) Is Lutz an environmental distinction, like Red Spruce vs. Adirondac?

Mike, if you click on his website link at the bottom of the original post it is explained in "The Woods" section

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
