Hi, last week i reset the neck on an old martin 5-17t, all mahogany tenor guitar. The neck had probably been reset before with 'idontknowwhat'-glue, and I had to steam it pretty good. As usual, the steam gave the laguer a white haze. This has happened to me before, no biggie. But usually after a while it goes away, when the mosture escapes from the finish.

This time however, it has stayed in there for about a week. Do you guys have any tips on how to get it out?

Buffing or vigorously rubbing the area with a cloth will often work. The heat generated by the buffing seems to be the key.

If I remember right on the Stew Mac neck reset video they use a quick wipe with denatured alcohol (I think it was). Maybe someone can confirm this, or if I get the chance I will check the video before you give it a try.. The alcohol released the moisture and cleared up the haze.

Cool! Will give that a try. Tried w naphta, but with no result.

If it's a lacquer finish, I'd say to spray a light coat of retarder/lacq.thinner; should remove any moisture trapped.

I have removed that with a little of the courser hand polish - Meguiars number 2 .. then follow up with number 7 - the top layer of the finish seems to get that sometimes. If the overall finish isnt that shiny, the number 2 may be all you need ..it still leaves a decent shine.

I have used Blush Eraser for this with good results.

The stuff I've use for shellac flakes works well for this - Behkol
