I have tried a number of different tools to ramp the string slots in the bridge. Lately, I've been using drill bits which work fairly well. But I think I would prefer a hand tool for this task. I'm guessing a round speciality file will perform adequately - I have found a few with the proper diameters for the job. But can anybody recommend a tool that they have found works especially well for this task? My woodworking knowledge is mostly limited to just lutherie and so I am thinking there might be a hand tool that I'm overlooking.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Kind Regards,
Simon

I use a carbide burr, in a Dremel.

I use one of these. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for:_Bridges/Bridge_Pin_Hole_Saw.html I suppose I could have made something, but it's less than 5 bucks.

I cut the slots in the bridge with a jigsaw, then I ramp the slots with a nut slot file one size larger than the string in question. You can even grind down one side of the file to fit better if you like, though I don't do that.

Thanks for the replies! The actual bridge slotting I do with the StewMac jigsaw blade and it works quite well. I think I might try a file or a carbide burr and see which I prefer. Thanks Again!!!

Kind Regards,
Simon
