This is a picture of my own 5 string banjo I carved about 10 years ago. You CAN be different.
I'm working on a cool Celtic design peghead/heel carving on a classical for a client and will post when I'm done.

Steve,
I used a nail set....with a wood handle on it and just apply palm pressure to create the dimpled effect. I take a small 1/8 round grinding bit and hollow the end out. Different size nail sets give a variety of dimpled sizes for large and small areas.
Simple trick for a nice look.

How Brave! I did not know we could even type the "B" word. :lol:

I am working on a couple of ebony tone rings and one ebony rim, and one walnut rim. All, block; things will get exciting when they go on the Shopsmith lathe-I do plan to knock off the worst bumps on a belt sander.

I am quite impressed with the carve-the circular "grounding" seems to be a tradition on banjo necks-years ago I made a punch for very small round taps for grounding. I'll have to search for it-banjo necks coming up too. MT
